Remembered as if in a Dream

This is a picture near Webb’s Bay, Nunatsiavut. Tucked away along the coast facing the Labrador Sea, coves and bays sometimes have an Inuit settlement, but most often not. In the winter, land and sea blend together under the same blanket. Everything is quiet. Everything is new. Like on a blank page, a rock could appear like a whale surfacing, or a ship sinking. In this moment, it became a place to sit, to look out at the Nuna, this fluid word Inuit lovingly use for Home. As a visitor to Nunatsiavut, the Nuna is a blank page, but to Inuit who have lived there since time immemorial, each dent, dot and dash is a language they read like a story. It feels like a dream to have been witness, even if for a moment.
